This year, National Geographic calculated that more than 50 million people were systematically murdered in the past 100 years. Even today genocide thrives. Recording testimonies of Rwandans is an important step in global genocide education and prevention, and it is also crucial for future generations of Rwandans seeking long-term peace.
Voices of Rwanda is committed to filming testimonies over the next several decades, but believes that recording stories of the elderly and those living with HIV/AIDS is especially critical today. Every day that passes so many of their stories are lost forever. Because the world abandoned Rwanda in 1994, today we have inherited the obligation to listen to those who want to share, and ultimately to ensure that their voices are heard throughout the world.
