The testimony is a forum for individuals to share their personal stories when many might never speak of them. Each person is given as much time as needed to share his or her story, which is not limited to the events of the genocide. Childhood memories, stories from parents and grandparents, and even recent memories are recorded to contextualize the genocide in Rwanda's broader history.
The visual aesthetic of each testimony is also an essential element in the recording process. Extra care is invested to ensure that each testimony is beau-tifully photographed, resulting in a document both respectful of the individual and capable of conveying his or her story without visual distraction.
